Cisco Live 2020

Cisco Live 2020 started off with a timely and often emotional keynote from CEO Chuck Robbins. As expected, the Covid-19 pandemic and resulting impact on IT featured heavily in his opening remarks. He spoke about contributions the Cisco team has made, together in the form of innovation and as individuals contributing time, technology, and advocacy in their communities.

The stories told at Cisco Live 2020 underlined the need for rapid scaling of technology. Luiss University in Italy moved 500 classes online in 48 hours. Honeywell moved from a 35% remote workforce to 100% remote practically overnight.

Then, predictions appeared. 75% of companies in the US will accelerate technology transformation due to the Covid-19 pandemic.  We will travel less, and meet via video more. Contact centers will largely remain remote.

Finally, questions arose: How can we be prepared for what is to come? How do we ensure that social distancing can be supported and enforced once workers return in higher numbers to physical office space?

Multiple customer stories emerged, including this one by University of Maryland Medical System who leveraged Cisco and Vyopta to scale telemedicine and remote work capacity in record time to combat the Covid-19 pandemic.
